The launch of the brand new BMW 5 series brings a new code name ‘G’, which means that BMW‘F’ would gradually been replaced as time goes on.
To us, the biggest change for ‘G’ may be the change between hub hole distance. Previously it was 5*120, now it has changed into 5*112, which is compatible with VW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
At present G30/G38 brake kit has fully developed, those guys who would like to improve their brakes can do it now.
Below is updating case of front and rear brakes for BMW G38
Front wheel use AP8520 big 6 pistons brake

Front wheel and front brake being disassembled. During the disassembling of front brake, we found that this generation of BMW 5 series front suspension still apply BMW dual ball joint suspension , still adopt complete aluminum alloy swing arm, but it seems thicker than the last generation in terms of swing arm dimension.
In order to fit the front 8520 big 6 pistons brake caliper, we directly installed a set of 380mm ‘huge’ brake disc to G38. Let’s have a look at the dimension comparison with the original brake disc and it.
No need to talk too much about the advantage of having a big brake disc, bigger braking force, quicker heat dissipation, and most importantly, super beautiful.
After comparing the brake discs, let’s have focus on the brake calipers. This 530 equipped with original 4 pistons brake caliper, the brand of which is BREMBO. Even though a BMW or M trade mark can not be seen, but it’s 4 pistons after all. However, according to car owner’s feedback, this set of brake system is far from enough to be used. It’s nearly the same as the single piston when you pedal the brake.
Naturally for a good set of brakes, good fittings is something just can not compromise. Brake hose chose UK HE. A good set of brake hose not only guarantees anti deformation and unlikely to swell when brake sharply, but also ensures it won’t age with time.
By the way, as this car is a brand new 530, there is nearly no rust on axle end, brake discs can be installed directly after slightly wiping. Otherwise, installation can only be done after removing rust and polishing.
When faced with original 19 inches big rear hub, we not only assembled 8520 brake caliper, but also matched the same brake disc 380mm as front wheel. The rear brake disc looks extraordinary when compared with original disc.
Original rear brake is made by TRW Automotive, single piston caliper with parking brake motor.
The question is, original brake is compatible with both service brake and parking brake, which added quite a few troubles to later updating and modification. But never mind, solutions are always much more than questions, because we have customized parking bracket.
If rear wheel assemble 380 brake disc, it really takes up a lot of space, may cause bump between rear original brake and hub. There are 2 solutions to this: 1. change the hub to a bigger one. 2. cut the original parking brake caliper.
Since our customer won’t change the hub temporarily, meanwhile there is no need to enlarge 19 inches hubs for daily use, so we chose the latter solution.
How many are we going to sell? That’s it...
Now that original caliper only works as parking brake, so it won’t affect safety even cutting like this.
